NEW ANIMATED MOVIES: "PUSS IN BOOTS" AND "DOROTHY OF OZ"

Today we have for you the first images from two new animated projects. Dreamworks has decided to make a spin-off with the only character from "Shrek" I like, the adorable "Puss in Boots", and today they have revealed the first image showing Puss beside the lead female character, Kitty, voiced by Salma Hayek :)Coming to cinemas in winter 2011, "Puss in Boots" will tell the hilarious tale of Puss's (Antonio Banderas) early adventures as he teams with mastermind Humpty Dumpty and the street-savvy Kitty to steal the famed goose that lays the Golden Eggs.

Another project is "Dorothy of Oz", new animated version of the famous story. The character sketches for the film have just been revealed along with the breathtaking list of actors who will lend their voices, and you can now take the first look at Dorothy (Lea Michele), the Cowardly Lion (James Belushi), the Tin Man (Kelsey Grammer), Marshal Mallow (Hugh Dancy) and the Scarecrow (Dan Aykroyd)... The film follows Dorothy and her old friends the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, the Lion, as well as some new ones, who all set out on a perilous journey to stop the crafty Jester from using the power of the Wicked Witch of the West's wand to turn the people of Oz into puppets. But that seems to be the least of Dorothy's problems as her travels lead her straight into a treacherous maze, a cave full of very hungry dragons and an evil spell that could destroy the Yellow Brick Road. Dorothy has the daunting knowledge that it is up to her to stop Jester's terrible plan. "Dorothy of Oz" shall premiere in 2011.

  1. Good cast for Dorothy of Oz. And they better do right by Puss!

  2. Agreed on the casting for Dorothy of Oz. With those peeps (Kelsey Grammer and Partick Stewart, especially) it could really be a good one.

    You know, the more I think about it, the more I'm liking the idea of Martin Short in a jester role. I think that could turn out to be some fantastic casting.

  3. I have such a love for the 'Puss-in-Boots' character since someone was smart enough to give him the voice of Antonia Bandaras. I am a huge fan of 'The Mark of Zorro'. I hope this film is a great swashbuckling adventure. Salma Hayak is a great choice for the female cat too. Kitties with swords, does it get any better than that?

    yes, the casting is truly stunning for this particular movie and I can already imagine the voices of all those actors in their roles. And plus the first sketches look rather charming.
    Martin Short already played some kind of a jester in MERLIN mini series with Sam Neil, so I believe he can do it again :)

    @Cal
    hey, Cal, haven't seen you here ... like never :)) Puss in Boots really is one of the most charming animated characters, and he was especially charming being fat in the last part of SHREK :) It will surely be totally hilarious.

  5. I love Kelsey Grammar. At least as Frazier. His next two attempts didn't cut it for me. I think he didn't have the supporting cast.

  6. It's true, Gregg, probably because FRAZIER was so unique in its wittiness and charm, it was pretty much impossible to repeat such a success.

  7. i love the fantasy wave in our culture these days. it's mostly supplied to us through vampire stories and sequels to other fantasy works since hollywood and the publishing industry are the ultimate in-the-box believers. still, i love the fantasy fervor going on today. probably won't see either of these unless they get rave reviews.

  8. I really don't get why everyone loves Puss in Boots so much? There many much more interesting animated characters than Puss, at least for me. Although Donkey is a bit annoying at times, he's much more funny, fresh and lively than Puss and even Shrek himself.

    me to, Ed, I also love the new wave of fantasy and historical movies in Hollywood and on TV, although I don't like the vampiremania, and can't wait to see the trend of angels and positive beings in cinemas :)

    @Neb
    oh, that's soooo strange, since I secretly imagine you as Puss in Boots :))

    @Avalon

  14. Took some kids to Shrek 3. Loved Puss. Especially Garfield-sized Puss. There's one over-sized kit in this dog-loving family. And probably only a gastric bypass would help her...

    Wonderful voices in Shrek.

  15. we love the Garfield sized Puss :) That's how all the kitties should look like.
